President Donald Trump has put a seven-figure price tag on election fraud tips, and he did it just days before Americans head to the polls.

In a Truth Social post on Monday, October 26, Trump pledged $1,000,000 to anybody who reports voter fraud in past elections or in the upcoming 2026 midterms. The money would be paid upon the arrest and conviction of those who created the fraud.

The wording is worth reading closely. The offer is not for accusations or suspicions. A reward would be paid only after an arrest and a conviction, which sets a high bar.

It is also not limited to Americans. Trump wrote that anybody reporting fraud would be paid, though the White House has not explained who would qualify or how claims would be handled.

That is the detail still hanging in the air. Trump did not say where the money would come from or how the program would operate, and the White House declined to provide additional information.

The announcement comes with the midterm elections set for Tuesday, November 3, and control of Congress at stake.

The pledge arrived on the heels of a federal effort. The Justice Department recently announced its own fraud tip program, which provides discretionary payments of $10,000 to $30,000 for tips that lead to criminal charges.

Trump also announced last week a separate whistleblower program for fraud against the government, under which tipsters would receive one percent of the money recovered. The president said he would decide whether a tipster gets paid.

The administration says its focus is election integrity. Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin and Attorney General Todd Blanche have said the integrity of elections, including this November’s midterms, could be in jeopardy because of noncitizens attempting to register or vote.

The Justice Department points to its record. Since Trump returned to office in 2025, it has charged more than 150 people with voting illegally or falsely claiming to be American citizens when they registered to vote.

Homeland Security has also said it found thousands of noncitizens on voter rolls in California, New Jersey and Pennsylvania.

The penalties are real. An immigrant convicted of voting illegally faces up to a year in prison, and someone convicted of lying on an application to become a citizen faces up to a decade.

Supporters of the president argue that a low count of convictions does not prove an absence of cheating, and that even a handful of illegal votes undermines public trust.

The idea of a fraud bounty is not new. In November 2020, Texas Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick, a Republican, set aside up to $1 million from his campaign account and offered at least $25,000 for any tip that led to a voter fraud conviction.

That plan had an unusual ending. Patrick’s first payout, nearly a year later, went to a progressive poll watcher in Pennsylvania who had uncovered evidence of Republican wrongdoing. It was a reminder that fraud law does not care about party.

Funding is the obvious question. In Trump’s case, the source of the money has not been disclosed, which is a fair thing to ask of any program that promises seven figures to a tipster.

Trump’s offer also reaches back to past elections. He has long maintained that fraud affected the 2020 election, so it is an open question whether any tip about past contests can lead to the conviction that triggers payment.

The reward is part of a bundle of midterm promises. Trump has also floated $5,000 for every adult American citizen if Republicans keep both chambers, a plan that would cost more than $1 trillion and require congressional approval, and he has warned that some payments depend on winning. If we lose, you get nothing, he said.

There is a legislative backdrop too. Trump has pushed the SAVE America Act, which would require voter ID at the ballot box and proof of citizenship to register. The House passed it earlier this year, but it has failed in the Senate multiple times.

In remarks this summer, the president mentioned to have seen shocking vulnerabilities in the nation’s election infrastructure, pointing to a 2020 voter registration case in Michigan and criticizing mail-in ballots in California.
