The winery, eStCru Wines, shut down in April 2026 amid mounting scrutiny of the company’s finances and the business interests disclosed by Omar, a Minnesota Democrat who has represented the state’s 5th Congressional District since 2019.

Speaking on Fox News’ Sunday Night in America, Comer said the winery had reportedly been shut down because of fraud. His remarks brought renewed attention to a broader House Oversight Committee inquiry into the financial disclosures of Omar and her husband, Tim Mynett.

The investigation centers on a question that deserves a clear answer: How did companies associated with Mynett report such dramatic increases in value in just one year, and what financial records support those figures?

In February 2026, Comer announced that his committee was seeking financial records from two companies linked to Mynett: eStCru LLC and Rose Lake Capital LLC.

According to Omar’s financial disclosure forms cited by the committee, the combined reported value of the businesses rose from a maximum of approximately $51,000 in 2023 to as much as $30 million in 2024.

The reported valuations raised questions because the companies did not publicly identify their investors or provide extensive information about their financial operations.

In a letter to Mynett, Comer requested records concerning the companies’ finances, audits, communications with federal agencies, and sources of funding. The committee also questioned whether investors could have been seeking influence through business relationships connected to a sitting member of Congress.

These concerns remain questions for investigators, not proof of wrongdoing. Private companies can experience substantial valuation changes, and disclosure forms report estimated value ranges rather than necessarily representing cash on hand or realized profits. Nevertheless, the scale of the reported increase provides a legitimate basis for requesting supporting documentation.

The scrutiny surrounding eStCru did not begin with Comer’s latest remarks. The California-based wine business was founded in 2020 by Mynett and a business partner. It subsequently received industry recognition, including being named a hot brand by Wine Business in 2022.

However, the company’s business history later attracted scrutiny over an investor dispute.

In its February 2026 account of the investigation, Fox News reported that Mynett allegedly promised a Washington-area investor a 200% return on a $300,000 investment in eStCru, plus interest. The investor did not receive repayment until after filing a fraud lawsuit in 2023, according to the report.

That dispute is part of the background behind the current questions about the winery’s financial condition. It does not, by itself, establish that the separate empty-barrel allegations are true.

Comer also wrote to Mynett before the winery closed, questioning how the company’s reported value had risen so sharply despite earlier reports of financial trouble.

The business ceased operations on April 4, 2026, according to California business records reported by Fox News. Its closure intensified interest in how the company had been valued and what had happened to its investors.

The investigation extends beyond the winery. Rose Lake Capital, another company associated with Mynett, was also included in the financial disclosures that prompted Comer’s inquiry. The committee questioned the firm’s reported valuation and the limited publicly available information about its investors, assets, and operations.

Comer’s committee requested financial documents and communications to better understand the businesses’ reported worth and the sources of their funding.

The inquiry is significant because financial relationships involving the spouse of a member of Congress can raise questions about potential conflicts of interest, even when the underlying business activities are private. There is an important distinction, however, between asking whether a financial relationship warrants investigation and concluding that it was used to purchase political influence. The latter requires evidence.

Omar’s own reported finances have also drawn attention. Her financial disclosures listed ownership interests associated with her husband’s businesses, with reported value ranges changing substantially between reporting years. Comer argued that the figures required additional explanation.

Omar previously described discrepancies in her financial disclosures as accounting errors. Fox News also reported that she told The Wall Street Journal in April 2026 that she and her husband had less than $100,000 combined.

That statement has fueled further questions about the distinction between the couple’s reported assets, their business interests, and their actual household finances. The figures cannot be reconciled reliably without examining the underlying disclosures, valuation methods, liabilities, and relevant financial records.

The House Oversight Committee referred its inquiry into Omar’s finances to the House Ethics Committee, according to Fox News. The Ethics Committee is responsible for considering allegations of misconduct by lawmakers and determining whether further action is warranted under its procedures.
