1: Lindsay Clancy Murder Trial Plunged Into Chaos as Holdout Juror Fight Reaches Massachusetts’ Highest Court

A single dissenting juror has stalled a verdict for a week, prompting a last-minute emergency appeal after the judge nearly declared a mistrial.

After seven days and more than 36 hours of deliberation, the jury in Lindsay Clancy’s triple murder trial remains deadlocked over a single holdout juror defense attorney Kevin Reddington says is refusing to follow the law. Judge William Sullivan twice denied requests to remove that juror, telling the panel they must “follow the law whether they like it or not.” On Friday, Sullivan was prepared to declare a mistrial before Reddington won a last-minute hour to file an emergency appeal with the state’s Supreme Judicial Court.

Why It Matters to You: Clancy, who admitted drowning her three young children in 2023 while citing severe postpartum psychosis, faces life without parole if convicted or commitment to a state mental hospital if found not criminally responsible — and the outcome now hinges on a single juror and an emergency ruling from Massachusetts’ highest court. 2: Rubio Heads to Colombia, Ecuador, and Peru to Reinforce Trump’s ‘Shield of the Americas’ Alliance

The three-day Latin America swing comes as the administration touts its ‘Donroe Doctrine’ push against cartels and Chinese influence in the hemisphere.

Secretary of State Marco Rubio will travel to Colombia, Ecuador, and Peru next week to meet with three Trump-aligned presidents, the State Department announced Friday. Spokesman Tommy Pigott said the trip will “strengthen key US partnerships” and that Rubio will “reaffirm the Trump Administration’s commitment to a secure, prosperous, and democratic Western Hemisphere.” The visit follows Colombia’s break from its former leftist government, which the U.S. decertified over its counternarcotics record last year.

Why It Matters to You: With drug cartels, Chinese influence, and a devastating Colombian earthquake all on the agenda, Rubio’s three-capital sweep is the clearest sign yet that the administration’s “Donroe Doctrine” has moved from talking point to sustained, high-level diplomacy. Read more →

3: Elon Musk’s America PAC Spends $800K to Back GOP Candidates Ahead of Midterms

The super PAC’s first major 2026 push targets Senate races in Texas and Maine, with more battlegrounds to come.

Elon Musk’s America PAC has spent more than $800,000 backing Republican candidates in the 2026 midterms, according to FEC filings, with the biggest chunk — roughly $248,000 combined — flowing into Texas’s open Senate race to support Ken Paxton and oppose Democrat James Talarico. The PAC also spent heavily opposing Maine Democrat Troy Jackson while boosting Sen. Susan Collins, plus smaller sums for House and Senate candidates in Michigan, Iowa, New York, and New Jersey. The spending marks Musk’s re-entry into big-dollar politics after a public falling-out with Trump last year that the president has said left their relationship “never the same as before,” even as the two have since patched things up enough to talk roughly once a month.

Why It Matters to You: With cash-strapped Republicans defending a thin Senate majority, Musk’s return to the political battlefield could be the financial lifeline the GOP needs in several toss-up races — or a reminder to voters of exactly the “billionaire interests” Democrats are campaigning against. 4: New Census Data: Foreign-Born Population Drops Nearly 3 Million Under Trump

Researchers say it’s the first negative net migration to the U.S. since the 1930s, with illegal immigrants accounting for most of the decline.

A new Census Bureau survey analysis shows the foreign-born population living in the U.S. fell by 2.9 million between January 2025 and July 2026, with an estimated 2.3 million of that decline coming from the illegal immigrant population. Center for Immigration Studies researcher Steven Camarota said “the best data we have shows an enormous decrease in the total foreign-born population, with most of the falloff among illegal immigrants,” calling it the first instance of negative net migration to the U.S. since the 1930s. The drop reverses a sharp 8.3 million increase in the foreign-born population during the four years before Trump took office.

Why It Matters to You: The numbers offer the clearest data-driven confirmation yet that Trump’s border and deportation policies are reshaping U.S. demographics in real time — and researchers note the shift hasn’t produced the kind of labor-market disruption critics predicted, since most of those who left weren’t working. 5: JD Vance Steps to the Podium as White House Ends 42-Day Press Briefing Drought

The Vice President filled the void left by Karoline Leavitt’s abrupt exit, with no permanent successor yet named.

Vice President JD Vance held the White House’s first press briefing in 42 days on Thursday, stepping in after Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt’s unexpected departure. Leavitt, 29, left at the end of August to spend more time with her two young children, telling reporters on her final day that “the most important thing is understanding that President Donald Trump is his own best spokesperson.” President Trump later joked about the sudden flood of interest in replacing her, saying “she’s made that job very glamorous.” With names like Scott Jennings, Anna Kelly, and Steven Cheung circulating as possible successors, Vance used the podium to defend the administration’s economic record heading into the midterms.

Why It Matters to You: With no press secretary in place more than a month after Leavitt’s exit, Vance has effectively become the administration’s day-to-day spokesman on top of his other duties — a sign of how thin the White House communications bench has grown ahead of a contested midterm cycle.
