Security and homeland protection took center stage as Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin delivered a fiery rebuke to Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer on Thursday, April 23, 2026.

During a Fox News interview with Bill Melugin, Secretary Mullin unleashed on Schumer after the New York Democrat claimed that “nobody respects” Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and U.S. Border Patrol agents.

Mullin, a former mixed martial arts fighter and Oklahoma senator known for his straightforward style, did not hold back when shown the clip of Schumer’s remarks.

“Chuck Schumer, no one respects you. The definition of a lying scumbag politician—that is you. You would be the definition if you Googled it right now,” Mullin declared, visibly agitated by what he called deeply disrespectful comments toward dedicated law enforcement officers.

The outburst came amid ongoing tensions over funding for the Department of Homeland Security, which had been operating under a partial shutdown for nearly 70 days as of late April 2026.

Schumer’s comments were widely viewed by conservatives as another example of Democrats undermining the brave men and women on the front lines of America’s border crisis, especially as President Trump ramps up interior enforcement and deportations of criminal illegal aliens.

Mullin emphasized that Schumer’s words were not only false but dangerously demoralizing to agents who risk their lives daily to protect American communities from drugs, gangs, and human traffickers.

“It makes my ears red,” Mullin said, explaining that it takes a lot to upset him, but Schumer’s smear crossed a serious line.

The DHS secretary pointed out what he called hypocrisy: Schumer enjoys a taxpayer-funded security detail while disparaging the very agencies whose agents put themselves in harm’s way every day.

“How about he walks around these city streets without a detail? I wonder how safe he would feel,” Mullin challenged, highlighting what he described as the disconnect between elite politicians and the realities faced by ordinary Americans and frontline officers.

This confrontation underscores the sharp contrast between the Trump administration’s America First agenda and the open-borders policies long championed by Schumer and his Democratic allies.

For years, Schumer and Democrats blocked meaningful border security measures, opposed wall construction, and pushed for reduced funding and restrictions on ICE operations, contributing to record illegal crossings and fentanyl deaths during the previous administration.

Under President Trump’s leadership, ICE and Border Patrol have been empowered once again to enforce immigration laws, leading to thousands of criminal removals and a dramatic drop in illegal entries at the southern border.

Mullin’s strong words reflect the frustration felt by millions of Americans who are tired of career politicians like Schumer disrespecting law enforcement while cities suffer the consequences of sanctuary policies and released criminals.

The DHS shutdown standoff has caused real impacts, including delayed pay for TSA screeners and potential security risks at airports, which conservatives blame squarely on Democratic obstructionism in funding negotiations.

Secretary Mullin has been a vocal advocate for fully funding and supporting DHS personnel since assuming the role, replacing previous leadership and aligning with Trump’s vision of securing the homeland.

His background as a conservative fighter in the Senate prepared him well for this role, where he has prioritized removing public safety threats and restoring morale to border agents who were demoralized under prior policies.

Schumer’s claim that “nobody respects” ICE and Border Patrol ignores what supporters describe as broad public backing for these agencies among law-abiding citizens who want secure borders and safe neighborhoods.

Polls have often shown that many Americans, including independents and some Democrats, support stronger enforcement against illegal immigration and criminal activity.
