BOMBSHELL: Ilhan Omar’s Former Husband Reportedly Posted a Photo Of…

A 14-year-old Instagram post is suddenly back in the spotlight, and it has landed in the middle of a federal criminal investigation into Representative Ilhan Omar of Minnesota.

The post, attributed to Omar’s former husband Ahmed Nur Said Elmi, shows him holding a newborn and carries a caption that uses the word Nieces and goes on to a crude phrase about the birth. It was reportedly posted in June 2012, a day after Omar gave birth to her third child.

The image has circulated before. Conservative outlets first posted a screenshot in 2016, and it was revived last week when a post on X pushing it racked up more than 400,000 views.

Why does it matter? For years, critics have alleged that Elmi, whom Omar legally married in 2009, is actually her brother, and that the marriage was arranged to help him gain entry to the United States.

That allegation has never been proven, and it needs to be stated just as plainly: Omar has denied wrongdoing and has dismissed the claims, and a caption on a social media post does not establish a family relationship by itself.

But the timeline of her marriages is, at minimum, unusual, and it is a matter of public record. Omar entered a religious marriage with Ahmed Hirsi in 2002. After they separated in 2008, she legally married Elmi in February 2009 and has described him as a British citizen.

She says that marriage ended in 2011 in their faith tradition, when she reconciled with Hirsi. But the legal divorce from Elmi did not come until December 2017, a month before she legally married Hirsi.

In the years in between, public records show Omar filed federal taxes in 2014 and 2015 jointly with Hirsi, while still legally married to Elmi. A state review of campaign finance violations brought that to light.

In a 2017 divorce affidavit, Omar said she had not seen Elmi since 2012, and she listed his whereabouts and relatives as unknown to her. Critics point to that sworn statement alongside the 2012 caption and ask how someone she did not know would describe her newborn as his niece.

Federal investigators are now looking at her history. On October 12, Homeland Security Investigations agents executed a judicially authorized search warrant at Omar’s Washington-area home. The Justice Department said the action was part of an ongoing federal criminal investigation.

The Justice Department has not publicly detailed the scope of the probe, and Omar has not been charged with any crime. Reports indicate investigators are examining her immigration and naturalization paperwork, including whether her age or her father’s details were misstated, along with the long-running allegations about the 2009 marriage.

A court filing tied to the search reportedly refers to her as Ilhan Nur Said Elmi, also known as Ilhan Abdullahi Omar. Omar answered on X that her name has always been Ilhan Omar. The wording has fueled intense speculation, but the government has not explained it.

Separately, the U.S. Attorney’s Office for Washington, D.C., led by Jeanine Pirro, is reviewing Omar’s financial disclosures, including an accounting error that, according to Pirro, cut her reported 2024 net worth from as much as $30 million to no more than $65,000.

Border czar Tom Homan has said that if fraud were proven, Omar could face denaturalization. That is a significant statement, and it underscores how high the stakes are.

Trump has said he was not involved in the search, while calling Omar a terrible person.

Vice President JD Vance said in March that Omar had definitely committed immigration fraud by allegedly marrying her brother, a claim her office called fabricated and defamatory.

Fact-checkers have weighed in as well. In 2019, PolitiFact reviewed the findings of Omar’s hometown newspaper and said it seemed clear there was some kind of personal relationship between Omar and Elmi. It also noted public records showing that at one point after her marriage to Elmi, Omar, Elmi and Hirsi all used the same Minnesota address.
