Zohran Mamdani Exposed for Claiming ‘Black’ on College Application, Sparking Outrage

Zohran Mamdani, the Democratic socialist frontrunner for New York City mayor, is reeling from a bombshell revelation that he identified as “Black or African American” and “Asian” on his 2009 Columbia University application, despite admitting he does not consider himself Black.

The New York Times, citing hacked Columbia data verified by Mamdani himself, reported on July 3, 2025, that the then-high school senior checked both boxes and wrote “Ugandan” to describe his background, claiming the application lacked options for his Indian-Ugandan identity.
