SHOTS FIRED: Homan Slams Pope Leo XIV Over Immigration Attack…

Trump’s Border Czar Tom Homan sharply pushed back against Pope Leo XIV’s recent criticism of the administration’s tough immigration enforcement, telling the Vatican to stay out of politics and focus on fixing problems within the Catholic Church instead.

Homan, a lifelong Catholic with decades of experience on the front lines of border enforcement, made his remarks to reporters outside the White House this week amid an escalating spat between the Trump administration and the Holy See over immigration and foreign policy.

“I’m speaking for myself, a lifelong Catholic,” Homan stated firmly. “I wish they’d stay out of immigration if they don’t know what they’re talking about.”

He didn’t mince words, offering to sit down and “educate” Vatican leaders on the harsh realities of open borders that the Pope and his advisors apparently fail to grasp from the safety of the Vatican.

Homan pointed to the undeniable human cost of the Biden-era border chaos that President Trump is now aggressively reversing.

With illegal immigration down a staggering 97% under Trump’s policies, Homan asked pointed questions: How many women aren’t being raped by the cartels? How many children aren’t dying on the dangerous journey? How many pounds of deadly fentanyl aren’t flooding American communities and killing citizens?

“Illegal immigration is not a victimless crime,” Homan declared. He recounted gut-wrenching experiences from his 40-year career, including speaking with a nine-year-old girl who had been raped multiple times and standing over a tractor-trailer containing 19 dead migrants — among them a five-year-old boy who baked to death in the heat.

“If they wore my shoes for 40 years and understood the atrocities that happen on an open border, I think their opinion would change,” he said.

Homan made clear he would “welcome a discussion” with Pope Leo XIV or any Vatican officials, but he stressed that a secure border is the most humane policy possible because it saves lives, dismantles human trafficking networks, and puts cartels out of business.

He didn’t hesitate to highlight the Church’s own inconsistencies, noting the thick walls surrounding the Vatican that protect the Pope and his flock—walls that come with strict enforcement and penalties far harsher than anything in the United States.

“I wish they would sit down and let me educate them on open borders,” Homan added. “There are enough problems with the Catholic Church — and I know because I’m a member of the Catholic Church — that they need to fix and concentrate on and leave politics alone.”

The criticism from Pope Leo XIV echoes similar complaints from his predecessor, Pope Francis, who also attacked Trump’s immigration approach in the past.

Homan had harsh words for that earlier meddling as well, accusing the Vatican of hypocrisy for preaching open borders while maintaining its own fortified perimeter.

Conservatives have long argued that unelected global institutions like the Vatican have no business dictating U.S. sovereign border policy. America’s laws exist to protect American citizens first — from drugs, crime, trafficking, and the crushing burden on schools, hospitals, and welfare systems caused by unchecked illegal immigration.

President Trump’s crackdown — including mass deportations of criminal illegal aliens and restored border wall construction — has delivered results that the American people demanded at the ballot box. Crime is dropping in key areas, fentanyl deaths are declining, and communities are breathing easier.

Homan’s blunt response serves as a refreshing reminder that real compassion means securing the border so that legal immigration can thrive while preventing tragedy and exploitation. It’s not “anti-immigrant” to enforce the rule of law; it’s pro-American and ultimately pro-human.

While liberal media outlets may portray Homan’s remarks as a “meltdown,” everyday Americans who have witnessed the devastation of open borders know better. They’ve seen the tent cities, the overdoses, the overwhelmed emergency rooms, and the innocent victims of crimes committed by those who should never have been here.
