REPUBLICANS PROPOSE BOLD BILL TO BLOCK CHINESE COMMUNIST PARTY FROM BUYING U.S. FARMLAND 

On July 24, 2025, Rep. Mary Miller (R-IL) introduced the “Protecting Our Farms and Homes from China Act” (H.R. 840), a hard-hitting House bill to block Chinese Communist Party (CCP)-linked entities from purchasing U.S. farmland and residential properties, including homes, condos, and land zoned for housing development.

The legislation, a companion to Sen. Josh Hawley’s (R-MO) Senate bill, responds to growing alarm over Beijing’s grip on American agriculture, with the U.S. Department of Agriculture reporting Chinese entities own roughly 265,000 acres of U.S. agricultural land.

Miller, in an exclusive to Fox News Digital, declared, “Prized American land is not for sale to our enemies. The Chinese Communist Party is the greatest threat to our national security, and their aggressive push to buy up our farmland and homes is a direct attack on our sovereignty.”

The bill empowers the Attorney General to seize assets and seek court orders to stop violations, aligning with President Trump’s “National Farm Security Action Plan,” led by Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, Attorney General Pam Bondi, and Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem.

Miller’s legislation, backed by a dozen GOP co-sponsors—Reps. Pat Harrigan, Ralph Norman, Paul Gosar, Bob Onder, Marlin Stutzman, Tim Burchett, Randy Weber, Tom Tiffany, Andy Harris, Tony Wied, Michael Rulli, and Eli Crane—targets CCP-affiliated corporations and individuals, particularly near military bases, which Rollins called a “weaponization” of U.S. land on Hannity.

The move builds on Trump’s 2024 campaign pledge to ban Chinese land purchases, following a 2023 Senate amendment that failed to become law.

On X, supporters posted, “The CCP is the greatest threat to our national security, and their aggressive push to buy up our farmland is a direct attack,” while democrats noted the CCP’s 250,000+ acres, many near strategic sites.

Critics, including Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-MD), argued the bill could unfairly target Chinese-American citizens, citing a 2024 ACLU report on anti-Asian discrimination. However, Miller countered, “It’s about putting America’s food supply and communities back in American hands,” emphasizing food security as national security.

A July 2025 Rasmussen poll shows 71% of Republicans support banning foreign adversaries from owning U.S. farmland, reflecting MAGA enthusiasm. The bill’s introduction follows bipartisan efforts, like the 2024 AFIDA Improvements Act, to track foreign land ownership, but Miller’s proposal takes a tougher stance.
