Napa County prosecutors have charged Paul Pelosi, the husband of former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, with one misdemeanor count of hit-and-run involving property damage and one misdemeanor count of making an unlawful turn. Napa County prosecutors have charged Paul Pelosi, the husband of former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, with one misdemeanor count of hit-and-run involving property damage and one misdemeanor count of making an unlawful turn. The charges stem from a July 3 traffic incident in Yountville, California, where authorities allege Pelosi’s vehicle struck an unoccupied parked car before leaving the scene without exchanging information as required by California law. No injuries were reported.

According to the Napa County District Attorney’s Office, investigators determined there was no evidence that alcohol or drugs contributed to the incident. Prosecutors said the case concerns alleged violations of California traffic laws and is separate from Pelosi’s previous DUI case in 2022. Pelosi is scheduled to make his initial court appearance next month.

Investigators say the collision caused property damage to the parked vehicle. Under California law, drivers involved in collisions resulting in property damage are generally required to stop, provide identifying information, and notify the vehicle owner if the owner is not present. Prosecutors allege those legal requirements were not met in this case.

Court records indicate the charges are misdemeanors rather than felonies. As with all criminal defendants, Pelosi is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court. His legal team is expected to respond to the allegations during upcoming court proceedings.

The charges have drawn national media attention because of Pelosi’s connection to one of the country’s most prominent political figures. Neither Nancy Pelosi’s congressional office nor Paul Pelosi’s attorney immediately issued detailed public comments following the filing of the charges.

Legal analysts note that misdemeanor traffic cases typically proceed through local courts, where prosecutors must prove each element of the alleged offenses beyond a reasonable doubt before any conviction can occur.

Although the allegations involve a relatively common category of traffic offense, the case has received widespread attention because it involves the spouse of a longtime national political leader. The proceedings will now move through the judicial process, where evidence and legal arguments will be presented in open court.

The case also serves as a reminder that traffic laws requiring drivers to stop after collisions and exchange information apply regardless of a person’s public profile or position.
