Rachel Griffin Accurso, the children’s entertainer known to millions of young viewers as “Ms. Rachel,” has once again waded into left-wing politics, this time with her checkbook. Federal Election Commission filings dated July 19 show she donated $3,000 to Abdul El-Sayed, a progressive Democrat running for U.S. Senate in Michigan.

The donation has ignited fresh outrage among parents who thought they were tuning into innocent sing-alongs and vocabulary lessons, not underwriting a political campaign accused of hostility toward Israel.

El-Sayed is no ordinary Democrat. Sen. John Fetterman has publicly called him a “pro-Hamas candidate.” That is not a conservative talking point manufactured for a campaign ad. It is a description from a member of El-Sayed’s own party.

El-Sayed has also drawn criticism for backing efforts to defund police, arguing Medicare for all would end so-called white privilege in health care, and insisting that Immigration and Customs Enforcement has been used to terrorize people on America’s streets. This is the candidate Ms. Rachel chose to support financially.

The donation comes as El-Sayed faces Rep. Haley Stevens in a Michigan Democratic Senate primary that has increasingly split over Israel. El-Sayed has called for an arms embargo against Israel and held rallies in April alongside far-left streamer Hasan Piker, who has previously suggested America deserved the September 11 attacks before apologizing.

Ms. Rachel’s own record on the subject is not exactly a mystery either. She has been outspoken about Gaza, going so far as to accuse Israel of genocide and calling publicly for an arms embargo against the Jewish state.

At Glamour’s 2025 Women of the Year event, she wore a dress adorned with drawings attributed to children in Gaza, turning a red carpet appearance into a political statement.

This is not an isolated incident of political giving. Accurso previously donated $3,500 to a slate of progressive New York candidates endorsed by socialist New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani.

Those Mamdani-aligned candidates, House hopefuls Darializa Avila Chevalier and Brad Lander, ousted establishment Democrats in primaries that party leaders themselves admitted were fueled by anti-Israel sentiment. The primaries took place ahead of a June 23 vote.

Her husband, Aron Accurso, a Broadway and children’s music director, also chipped in, donating $1,500 to Chevalier’s campaign. The family’s political giving, in other words, is a pattern, not a one-off.

What makes this notable is not merely that a private citizen has political opinions. It is that Ms. Rachel has built an empire on trust with parents who assume her content is apolitical and safe for toddlers.

Her reach is enormous. She commands more than 20 million YouTube subscribers and over 5 million Instagram followers, numbers most cable news hosts would envy.

Her Netflix programming has performed just as well commercially. Her series ranked among the platform’s most-watched children’s programming, putting her influence over young audiences and their parents’ wallets at a scale few entertainers ever achieve.

That reach is exactly why her political activity matters. When a figure with this level of access to children’s households starts funding candidates accused by their own party of sympathizing with a terrorist-linked movement, parents have a right to know.

Some have tried to draw a line between Accurso’s advocacy and her children’s programming, and to her credit, her videos themselves do not appear to contain overt political messaging aimed at kids.

But money talks. A $3,000 check to a Senate candidate whose own colleagues call him “pro-Hamas” is a statement of values, whether or not it shows up in a nursery rhyme video.

Parents who have let Ms. Rachel’s videos babysit their toddlers for the last few years may want to take a second look at who is cashing in on that trust and where the profits are going.
