Governor Greg Abbott has unleashed the full force of Texas law enforcement to hunt down Democrat legislators who fled the state like cowards to prevent a redistricting vote.

“These Democrats, they’re the antithesis of what a Texan is,” Abbott said in a powerful statement that perfectly captured the cowardice of the fleeing legislators. “Oh, the going got tough. Let’s not fight, let’s flee. These are quitters. They are cowards, and their cowardice will cause them to get kicked out of office.”

More than 50 Texas Democratic legislators left the state to block a GOP effort to redraw congressional lines that would add five new Republican seats ahead of the 2026 midterm elections. Rather than face the democratic process and vote on legislation, these cowards chose to run away like children throwing a tantrum when they don’t get their way.

Law Enforcement Ordered to Track Down Fleeing Democrats

“We are in the process as we speak right now of searching for, preparing to arrest Democrats who may be in Texas, may be elsewhere,” Abbott told NBC News in an interview at the governor’s mansion Thursday evening. The Republican governor has ordered the Texas Department of Public Safety to find and arrest the Democrats who fled the state, an order which will remain in effect until they are “accounted for and brought back” to Austin.

The Texas House Republicans voted 85-6 to authorize the House sergeant-at-arms and related officers to track down and civilly arrest Democrats who fled the state in protest of GOP redistricting efforts. “The sergeant-at-arms and any officers appointed by her are directed to send for all absentees whose attendance is not excused for the purposes of securing and maintaining their attendance under warrant of arrest, if necessary,” said Republican Rep. Dustin Burrows, the speaker of the Texas House of Representatives.

Ken Paxton Delivers Brutal Truth About Democrat Cowardice

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton delivered an even more devastating assessment of the fleeing Democrats. “Democrats in the Texas House who try and run away like cowards should be found, arrested, and brought back to the Capitol immediately. We should use every tool at our disposal to hunt down those who think they are above the law,” Paxton wrote in a social media post.

“I support the immediate arrest of these rogue lawmakers who’ve fled their duties. These radical Democrats are spitting in the face of every Texan they swore to represent. This is cowardice and dereliction of duty, and they should face the full force of the law without apology,” Paxton added, perfectly summarizing the outrageous behavior of these Democrat cowards.

Abbott Threatens Permanent Removal from Office

“This truancy ends now,” Abbott said in a letter sent to each of the departed members. “The derelict Democrat House members must return to Texas and be in attendance when the House reconvenes at 3:00 PM on Monday, August 4, 2025.” If they are not back by then, Abbott said, he would initiate legal action to remove them from office permanently.

Abbott asked the state Supreme Court to remove Democratic Rep. Gene Wu from office — one of more than 50 quorum-breaking Democratic House members. “Texas House Democrats abandoned their duty to Texans, and there must be consequences,” Abbott said in a statement announcing his petition to the state Supreme Court seeking the removal from office of key Democratic lawmakers.

Democrats’ Pathetic “Come and Take It” Response

The Texas House Democratic Caucus responded to Abbott’s threats with a four-word statement that read, “Come and take it.” This pathetic attempt at bravado only highlights their cowardice – they’re trying to sound tough while literally running away from their jobs. Real Texans fight for what they believe in; Democrat cowards flee the state when democracy doesn’t go their way.

Abbott vowed to call “special session after special session after special session” in response to Democratic lawmakers who have fled the state. “Democrats act like they’re not going to come back as long as this is an issue,” Abbott said. “That means they’re not going to come back until like 2027 or 2028, because I’m going to call special session after special session after special session with the same agenda items on there.”

“Our fellow Texans are being let down and not getting the flood relief they need, because these Democrats have absconded from the responsibility, and I believe they have forfeited their seats in the state legislature because they’re not doing the job they were elected to do,” Abbott said during an interview with Fox News.

The proposed congressional map could create up to five new Republican seats and help the party keep control of the House in the 2026 midterm elections. Instead of facing this democratic process, the cowardly Democrats chose to abandon their duties and flee their home state like criminals on the run.
