AMERICA FIRST: Trump Smashes Immigration Enforcement Records

President Donald Trump promised the American people the most aggressive immigration enforcement in the nation’s history, and the data confirms he has delivered. In the 17 months since Trump returned to the White House with an ironclad mandate to restore order to America’s broken immigration system, his administration has shattered virtually every meaningful enforcement benchmark in the modern record, producing results that the open-borders left insisted were impossible and the American people always knew were simply a matter of political will.

The numbers are historic by any honest measure. A study published by researchers at the University of Colorado Boulder through the National Bureau of Economic Research, examining hundreds of thousands of ICE arrest records from 2015 through October 2025, found that average daily ICE arrests in the first ten months of Trump’s second term reached 821.

That represents a 170 percent increase over the final year of the Biden administration, which had deliberately dismantled immigration enforcement and presided over the most catastrophic border collapse in American history. To put it in further perspective, Trump’s first term saw average daily ICE arrests of 435, itself a 43 percent increase over the Obama years. The second term has more than doubled even that.

The Department of Homeland Security’s own accounting of its first year is equally impressive in operational specifics. ICE arrested 43,305 individuals identified as potential national security risks during Trump’s first year back in office. Enforcement operations led to the arrest of 1,416 known or suspected terrorists and the removal of 1,392 of them from American soil.

Gang arrests exceeded 7,000, targeting the violent criminal networks, including MS-13 and Tren de Aragua, that the Biden administration’s open-border policies allowed to embed themselves in American communities from coast to coast.

Perhaps no single enforcement tool better captures the administration’s commitment to public safety than the Laken Riley Act, named after a young nursing student murdered by an illegal alien that the Biden administration had released into the country. President Trump signed the act into law shortly after taking office, establishing a mandatory arrest requirement for any illegal alien accused of a violent crime, including theft, burglary, assault on a law enforcement officer, and crimes causing death or serious bodily injury. In a single 14-day operation called Operation Angel’s Honor, conducted in honor of Laken Riley, ICE arrested more than 1,030 criminal illegal aliens under the act’s authority. That is the America First agenda translated into life-saving action.

The border itself has been transformed beyond recognition from the humanitarian and security catastrophe that Biden left behind. Customs and Border Protection data shows that unauthorized crossings at the southern border have plummeted to their lowest levels in years, a direct result of the policy architecture Trump put in place from his first day back in office. Reinstated remain-in-Mexico policies, renewed and expanded agreements with countries in Central America, the reimposition of real consequences for illegal crossing, and the resumption of border wall construction have together produced the deterrence effect that serious border security advocates always argued was achievable.

The border wall, for which the One Big Beautiful Bill signed into law in July 2025 provided $46.5 billion in dedicated funding, has resumed construction at a scale last seen in Trump’s first term. CBP has already obligated over $11 billion of those funds for active wall construction, and the administration has made additional reinforcement and extension of the barrier a top 2026 infrastructure priority. The wall is going up, and the American people who voted for it can see it happening.

The detention infrastructure required to sustain this enforcement operation has been built at historic speed. ICE detention capacity rose from roughly 40,000 at the start of 2025 to 66,000 by December, the highest level ever recorded, and the system is still expanding with Congress having authorized $45 billion in additional funding. To staff this operation, ICE now has 120 percent more officers and agents than it did when Trump took office, after the administration hired 12,000 new immigration enforcement personnel. This is not a temporary surge. It is the permanent structural expansion of America’s immigration enforcement capacity that the country has needed for decades.

The removal numbers that flow from this machinery are equally consequential. The Migration Policy Institute estimated that in the first 250 days of the administration, approximately 400,000 deportations were carried out, with roughly 234,000 by ICE from the interior and another 166,000 by CBP. ICE daily deportations doubled from 600 in January 2025 to 1,200 by June, and by November 2025, for every person released from ICE detention, more than fourteen were deported directly from custody. The catch-and-release era that defined the Biden years is over, and it is not coming back.

By March 2026, the TRAC data system at Syracuse University confirmed that ICE and CBP were booking 32,531 people into detention in a single month, with 29,606 arrested by ICE and 2,925 transferred from CBP. These numbers reflect a sustained operational tempo that is producing the accountability the American public demanded when it gave Trump his second mandate. When illegal aliens know that crossing the border means detention and removal, not a notice to appear in an immigration court years down the road, the calculus changes.

The operation’s geographic reach has been one of its defining features. The administration made clear from the beginning that sanctuary city declarations by left-wing mayors and governors do not override federal law, and federal enforcement operations have carried that message directly to Democratic strongholds that had convinced themselves they were above the law. In Denver, ICE arrests increased 211 percent from the beginning of Trump’s second term. Other major enforcement area increases came in Boston, Atlanta, Washington D.C., El Paso, and San Diego. The message to every sanctuary jurisdiction in America is the same: federal immigration law applies everywhere.

Operation Metro Surge in Minneapolis in January 2026 represented one of the most aggressive interior enforcement operations in American history, sending a clear signal to criminal illegal aliens in the nation’s heartland that no city, however progressive its local politics, is beyond the reach of federal law enforcement. The subsequent transition to what new DHS Secretary Markwayne Mullin has described as a “quiet way” of sustained enforcement, combined with maximum pressure that encourages voluntary departure, demonstrates that the administration has the strategic flexibility to pursue its mandate through multiple operational approaches simultaneously.

What the Trump administration has accomplished on immigration in 17 months represents a fundamental reversal of the Biden catastrophe. Under Biden, more than eight million people entered this country illegally, American border communities were overwhelmed, towns far from the border were flooded with migrants through Democratic resettlement programs, and the entire federal immigration enforcement apparatus was deliberately neutered by executive action. The human cost of that policy, in crime, drug trafficking, human smuggling, and the displacement of American workers, was immense and is still being tallied.

Under Trump, the direction has reversed entirely. The border is closing. Violent criminal aliens are being identified, arrested, and removed. The detention capacity exists to hold those who cannot be immediately removed. The legal framework, including the Laken Riley Act and the One Big Beautiful Bill’s enforcement provisions, has been strengthened. And the personnel to execute the mission are being hired and deployed. Every element of the system is moving in the right direction simultaneously, and the results in the data prove it.
