A 2025 American Immigration Council report notes the facility’s $1.2 billion cost is tied to the Big Beautiful Bill’s border funding. DeSantis hinted other red states like Louisiana and Alabama may follow suit, saying, “Blue states don’t do security well.” Noem confirmed the first detainees could arrive within 24 hours after a security sweep.
