A new national poll is drawing attention to a growing movement in the United States centered around alternative health views and institutional skepticism, often associated with Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. The survey, conducted by Politico and Public First, sampled 3,851 American adults and revealed that while most Americans do not fully embrace these beliefs, a notable minority agrees with key elements of what researchers are calling the “Make America Healthy Again” (MAHA) worldview.
The findings show that roughly three in ten Americans expressed agreement with claims questioning the safety or effectiveness of vaccines—one of the central issues Kennedy has emphasized throughout his career. While this does not represent a majority, it reflects a significant portion of the population engaging with ideas that challenge long-standing public health consensus.

Details & Background
Beyond vaccines, the MAHA movement appears to resonate even more strongly on issues related to food quality and environmental health. According to the poll, 56% of MAHA-aligned respondents identified removing ultra-processed foods and artificial dyes from American diets as core priorities. Additionally, 53% pointed to increasing physical activity and reducing exposure to “forever chemicals” and microplastics as key concerns.
Another notable issue is fluoride in public water systems. While 67% of MAHA supporters favor eliminating fluoride, the idea also garnered 43% support among the general public—suggesting the issue extends beyond a niche audience. These findings indicate that while vaccine skepticism draws attention, broader health and environmental concerns may be driving wider engagement.
The poll also revealed that MAHA-aligned individuals tend to share deeper concerns about systemic issues. Many believe the U.S. healthcare system is fundamentally broken, express distrust in pharmaceutical companies, and suspect that environmental or government factors are contributing to chronic disease trends. This perspective aligns with Kennedy’s long-standing critiques of federal health agencies and regulatory bodies.
Reactions
Support for Kennedy himself appears closely tied to these views. Respondents who aligned with MAHA positions reported significantly higher favorability toward him compared to those who did not. This suggests that his messaging is resonating with a specific and growing segment of the population.
At the same time, the poll makes clear that the movement has limits. On most questions, a majority of Americans either rejected or expressed skepticism toward more sweeping claims associated with MAHA, particularly when presented in absolute terms. Still, researchers noted that the presence of a distinct MAHA-aligned bloc reflects a broader shift in public sentiment.
Importantly, this shift is not confined to a single political party. While MAHA views are more common among Republicans and independents, a measurable portion of Democrats also expressed openness to some of these ideas. This cross-partisan appeal points to a deeper and more widespread distrust of traditional institutions.
Why This Matters to You
The emergence of the MAHA movement highlights a growing divide between everyday Americans and the institutions that shape national health policy. For many families, concerns about food quality, environmental exposure, and medical transparency are becoming increasingly personal—not political.
As these views gain traction, they could influence how federal agencies operate, how regulations are written, and how healthcare decisions are made at the national level. The government faces mounting pressure to address these concerns directly, whether through increased transparency, regulatory reform, or policy shifts that reflect changing public priorities.
At its core, this is about trust—trust in the systems designed to protect public health. As more Americans begin to question those systems, the response from leadership will play a critical role in determining the future of healthcare in the United States. The movement may still be a minority, but its influence is becoming harder to ignore.
