The move comes after Gates declined multiple voluntary requests to appear and provide records related to his documented meetings and communications with Epstein over several years.Committee members have stated that Gates’ interactions with Epstein, including multiple documented meetings at Epstein’s Manhattan townhouse and other locations, warrant full examination as part of the broader effort to understand how the financier maintained influence among elites. Gates has previously acknowledged regretting his association with Epstein but has maintained that the meetings were related to philanthropy and that he had no knowledge of Epstein’s criminal conduct.The potential subpoena would require Gates to appear for deposition and turn over communications, calendars, flight records, and other materials related to Epstein. If approved by the full committee and House, it would mark one of the highest-profile names compelled to testify in the Epstein-related inquiries. Republicans argue that voluntary compliance has been insufficient and that formal process is necessary to ensure complete answers.The development follows the recent agreement by Bill and Hillary Clinton to testify after facing contempt threats. The committee continues to pursue leads on Epstein’s network, including financial transactions, travel patterns, and potential enablers or beneficiaries of his activities.
