Surveillance video captured the dramatic moment when the suspect, Victor Hawkins, a 20-year-old former student obsessed with the 1999 Columbine shooting, walked into the school lobby armed with two semiautomatic handguns.
Hawkins fired shots and ordered two students to “get on the ground,” according to court documents.
His stated plan, per an affidavit, was to kill students, faculty members, Principal Moore, and then himself.
Instead of fleeing or hiding, Principal Moore — a 35-year veteran educator — charged directly at the armed gunman.
CCTV footage shows Moore emerging from a side door and tackling Hawkins onto a bench against the wall in the lobby.
During the intense struggle, Moore was shot in the lower right leg but continued to hold the suspect down until another staff member arrived and removed the gun from Hawkins’ hand.
No students or other staff members were injured.
Moore was hospitalized for the gunshot wound but has since been released and is recovering.
He credited his instincts, training, and “God’s hand” for his actions, while also thanking supporters for their prayers.
Local police and authorities hailed Moore as a hero who “saved kids’ lives.”
Garvin County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that Hawkins was arrested on the scene.
He now faces serious charges: two counts of pointing a firearm, one count of shooting with intent to kill, and two counts of unlawful carrying.
Just days after the life-saving incident, the resilient principal was overwhelmingly voted Prom King at the school’s prom on April 11, 2026.
Students lined up to cheer, hug, and take photos with Moore as he was crowned in a heartfelt ceremony that brought tears to many in attendance.
The moment went viral, with videos showing students chanting his name and expressing gratitude for his bravery.
Moore, visibly moved, told the crowd that the real honor was seeing his students safe and happy.
This powerful gesture from the student body reflects the deep respect and love the school community has for their principal.
In a world where too many educators face daily challenges, Moore’s willingness to risk his life turned him into a living symbol of protection and selflessness.
The incident stands in stark contrast to tragic failures in soft-on-crime jurisdictions where hesitation or “gun-free zone” policies leave victims defenseless.
