Former CIA counterterrorism officer John Kiriakou is making explosive allegations against Obama-era CIA Director John Brennan, claiming the intelligence official orchestrated efforts to undermine and remove President Donald Trump from power.

Kiriakou told Public magazine that he has long believed Brennan was the central architect behind the origins of the Russiagate investigation.

He alleged that Brennan directed foreign intelligence assets to feed information to the CIA designed to entrap Trump campaign advisers.

According to Kiriakou, that information was then passed along to the FBI.

The claims are among the most direct accusations yet made by a former CIA officer against Brennan.

Kiriakou also claimed his own 2012 prosecution under the Espionage Act served as a “template” for the lawfare later deployed against President Trump.

He alleged that Brennan personally petitioned then-Attorney General Eric Holder to file charges against him.

According to Kiriakou, the Justice Department was initially skeptical of pursuing the case.

He claims Brennan nevertheless pushed aggressively for prosecution.

Kiriakou argues the effort was designed to force him into a costly and exhausting legal battle.

He has repeatedly described his prosecution as retaliation for exposing CIA torture practices.

The former CIA officer served time in federal prison after pleading guilty to violating the Intelligence Identities Protection Act.

He has since become one of the agency’s most outspoken critics.

His latest allegations place Brennan at the center of multiple controversies spanning more than a decade.

The accusations add to a growing cloud surrounding the former CIA director.

The Justice Department launched a formal investigation into Brennan in July 2025.

The investigation centers on allegations that he improperly handled the 2017 Intelligence Community Assessment.

That assessment concluded that Russia sought to influence the 2016 presidential election in Trump’s favor.

Critics have questioned the methods used in producing the assessment and the evidence supporting some of its conclusions.

Brennan has consistently defended the assessment and his role in overseeing intelligence operations during that period.

Additional scrutiny emerged in October 2025.

The House Judiciary Committee referred Brennan to the Department of Justice.

Committee members accused him of making false statements to Congress during his 2023 testimony.

The allegations specifically concerned Brennan’s statements about the Steele dossier and its role in the Intelligence Community Assessment.

The referral intensified political and legal pressure on the former CIA chief.

Brennan has strongly denied any wrongdoing.

He has characterized the congressional referral as politically motivated.

Supporters of Brennan argue that the investigations are part of a broader effort to discredit intelligence officials involved in examining Russian election interference.

Critics maintain that serious questions remain unanswered regarding the origins of the Russiagate investigation.
